Each Itomaki Shade is made one by one in the Kiryu workshop. The yarn is wound using a special machine made exclusively for this lighting fixture. This machine is operated by hands and eyes that fully understand the characteristics of yarn. Much of this work is our secret, which we cannot show to outsiders. Therefore, here, we will convey the spirit of craftsmanship through words, not photographs.
From fiber to light. Three steps.

Everything begins with a single thread. What kind of thread to use, and how densely to wind it—the answer lies only in years of experience. Artisans assess the character of the thread with their eyes and fingertips. Even when made in the same workshop, no two shades will ever have precisely the same look.
To finish
The finishing work continues, including trimming edges, attaching metal fittings, and inspecting details, all tasks that can only be done by hand. We refine each and every detail, viewing it from the perspective of the person who will hold it.

Finally, each light is lit one by one. How the light filters through the gaps in the threads. How the light dwells within the cocoon. We examine these "expressions of light," which cannot be measured by drawings or numbers, with human eyes before they leave the Kiryu workshop.
